Monitoring of the raft foundation revealed the presence of post-medieval occupation in the form of structural 18th century brick wall foundations and a brick-lined well. The deposits were heavily truncated by modern service in places. Additional modern pits and post holes were also encountered.

The removal of topsoil revealed a thick subsoil deposit sealing the natural sand and gravels. The removal of this deposit was not required as part of the development. No archaeological features were recorded but a number of archaeological finds, including a Neolithic flint arrowhead, a worn sherd of Roman pottery and sherds of medieval pottery, were recovered from the topsoil and subsoil. Monitoring of the foundation and service trenches revealed layers of natural accumulations of deposits over the underlying chalky gravels, however, a potential undated clay layer was noted in some parts of the base of the service trench. A large modern service was recorded as cutting through the central north to south axis of the foundations. Two undated pits were also recorded just to the east of the modern service. A buried land surface was also identified. No artefacts were recovered. [Au(abr)]
