Airfield and wartime memories
These are the memories of those people who visited and knew the old airfield at Pocklington whilst it was in operation.
  1. The recollections of Peter Smith who was raised in Warter and whose father was assistant Estate Manager of the Warter Estate for over 40 years.

  2. The recollections of Dick Cains, whose family were millers at Devonshire mill.

  3. David J. Cottrell writes of his family memories of escaping the blitz in London to live in Pocklington and witnessing the aircraft taking off and landing at Pocklington airfield during the war.

  4. Airfield Memories of Ron Houghton. Ron Houghton, who lives in Sydney, was back in Pocklington in May 2017 for a week to take in the 102 Association reunion, based at the gliding club on the ex-WWII airfield, and visit some of his old haunts of over 70 years ago.

  5. John Jellicoe Blair was one of a number of Jamaican airman who joined 102 Squadron and flew from Pocklington airfield during WW2 as a Halifax Navigator.

  6. Sergeant Lincoln Orville Lynch DFM was another Jamaican airman who joined 102 Squadron and flew from Pocklington airfield during WW2 as a Halifax Rear Gunner.

  7. Jim Hall was brought up on Garths End and has clear memories of the Airfield and the Free French

  8. Les Kitchen was brought up in Garths End, Pocklington and attended Pocklington School
