Council to take over Fire brigade and purchase the fire engine and appliances
Brigade to consist of captain, superintendent, deputy superintendent, engineer, deputy engineer, and 9 firemen (with power to add more).
Charges – each officer 5/- for first hour and 2/6 each hour after 3/- for each fireman for first hour and 2/- each hour after.
T W Calverley Rudston to be captain,
G H Gibson - Superintendent,
Alfred Summerson – engineer,
Mr Joseph ? Green- deputy engineer,
Firemen – Christopher Proctor, William Tinson, John Robson, Arnold Rappe?,
J? E Fielder, R Richmond Young, Chas Buttle Sen ?, Thomas Hayton, Henry Faulkner
As soon as the shed is ready Mssrs Merryweather be asked to forward the engine on the same terms as they built the same.
The engine to be in the parade for Jubilee Day. 7 tunics to be bought for the brigade.
A handcart to be bought to convey hose, stand pipes and appliances in connection with hydrants

Thomas English to join the fire brigade.
30 July 1897
The Committee inspection of the fire engine shed, built by Wm Tinson for
£49 15s 0d as estimate and £15 5s 0d extras as approved.
Gas to be laid to the fire engine house and a Bunsen burner for the fire engine boiler to be obtained.
8 Sept 1911
C. Proctor had resigned from the brigade. The brigade had written asking if he can be retained “as we cannot serve under a better captain”.
