Woldgate College
The first part of the description was taken from an early town guide.

A new Pocklington County Secondary School was opened in September 1958. It was a general Secondary School originally for about 500 boys and girls providing general as well as technical courses, and there was also an academic stream preparing for the examinations and subsequent entry to University. The school had a large central hall, a gymnasium, dining room, woodwork and needlework rooms, science laboratories, domestic science rooms, adult common room, staff room, and usual classroom accommodation, together with a rural science unit. It provided for the needs of children of Secondary school age from Pocklington and the surrounding area.

The first headmaster was Mr. H. C. Vaughan, m.a., besides being Headmaster of the school was Warden for further education, community and youth service purposes.

Since it was first opened, Woldgate changed into a comprehensive school for the area and now has around 1400 pupils. The school was also awarded special status and received a grant for developments in the area of "Performing Arts". A new music block was built with hi-tech equipment such as a recording studio, dance studio etc.

I would be very greatful if you could provide me with any extra information regarding this article. A re-write is also welcome. You can contact me via the contact page.
