| Nelson's Shoe shop is commonly seen on old photographs of Market Place on the corner property. It was established in 1864 and was still trading in the late 1920's but was gone in the 1937 Trade Directory. |

In the latter years the business seemed to drop the "& Sons" title |

I was contacted by Chris Hall whose grandfather owned the shoe shop and he added this:
"In the mid 1930s Walter Fussey purchased the Nelson family shoe shop. According to the Kelly’s Trade Directory for 1937, Walter was the owner of “Fussey Wltr. boot & shoe mkr. & dealer” at 39 to 43 Market Place. Walter , his wife Margaret and daughter Jean lived in the flat above the shop, until 1947 when the family moved to Burnby Lane. Around 1950, Walter Fussey sold the shoe shop and retired." |
