| The Rev. F.J. Gruggen was one of the most renound Pocklington School headmasters. When he arrived at the school, it was in a run down state and in financial difficulties. Gruggen built the school's finances and the assets were considerable by the time of his death. It seems the school had to sell many of Gruggen's assets following his death.
