Bielby Parish Enclosure 1817
This map has been created by John Nottingham to depict the subdivision of the outlying lands within the parish of Bielby, plus the properties within the village, allotted by the 1817 enclosure act. The various 'Close' (field) and property allotment owners' names are listed in the table.

The main landowners at enclosure were the Warden and Fellows of Merton College, Oxford ("College"), who were also the lords of Bielby manor at the time. Another landowner of some note was Marmaduke Constable Maxwell Esq of the neighbouring Everingham Park (the large estate shown to the south of Everingham village). Although allotted a relatively-modest 160 acres in Bielby parish (Close 105) and 3 properties in the village, he also owned some 90% of the lands and properties in Seaton Ross parish to the south-west of Bielby. His diverse holdings were inherited in 1819 by his son, William Constable Maxwell Esq, also of Everingham Park, and who in 1858 became the 10th Lord Herries of Terregles, Dumfries.

The assistance of the "Treasure House" at Beverley in providing the source map data is gratefully acknowledged.
