Fox and Figgs Garage, George Street / Barmby Road

1914
Everingham
Wycliffe Galland Everingham started this garage business in 1914 when he built a garage on the corner site. The garage was taken over by another Pocklington cycle and motor engineer, Reuben Fox, circa 1930 when Wycliffe moved to Lancashire. Newspaper clipping from the Howdenshire Chronicle and Pocklington Weekly News for December 5th 1914 & advert early 1915.

(the newspaper has the incorrect date as the 1929 trade directory
has the Garage still run by W.G. Everingham and son.)

Fox & Figg
Advert from the Parish Magazine for Pocklington in May 1942
Recollection of Ken Durkin was that Reuben Fox had an Austin Ruby car and was always well dressed with brown leather shoes and grey turn up trousers, brown check shirt, cravat and always a natty cap, yellow scarf and cane. He played golf at the nearby golf course. His workers were Reg Warters, George Fetherston and handyman Reuben Aldred. Denis Moor said that Reuben Fox was also a notable pilot.
